Chateau St Jean Cabernet Cinq Cepages, 2003

94 points Wine Enthusiast

"Smooth and complex, with 78% Cab Sauvignon contributing the firm tannic backbone that gives this such excellent structure. The other four Bordeaux varieties are here as well. The flavors are so interesting: black cherries, blackberry jam, plum sauce, coffee, root beer and new oak. There’s an acidic vibrancy as well. Just beautiful California claret." (07/07) According to Robert Parker: "It is spicy, medium-bodied, and shows good ripe olive, herb, black cherry, and currant notes, soft tannins, and some flesh and succulence in a very good, but easygoing finish. This is usually more complex, richer, and deeper, but it is certainly excellent wine. Drink it over the next 7-10 years."
