Glass-staining ruby. Cool, vaguely medicinal aromas of cherry pit, black raspberry and botanical herbs. Then rich, velvety and deep in the mouth, offering an intriguing combination of fruit, herb and floral qualities. Finishes long and sappy, with fine-grained tannins and an echo of licorice. There's something here that reminds me a Barolo Chinato. This dense, serious wine would be great with a strongly seasoned mushroom or game dish, or one that incorporates black truffles.
